Defenseman Will Butcher ,adidas Dustin Byfuglien jersey, the NCAA's reigning Hobey Baker winner, signed with the Devils on Sunday.
Butcher's contract is a two-year entry level deal worth $925K per season.
Los Angeles Kings,The Devils was one of at least five Butcher considered in free agency after he declined to sign with the Colorado Avalanche, who drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 NHL Draft. Butcher also talked to the Buffalo Sabres, Las Vegas Golden Knights, Columbus Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins in free agency.

The addition of Butcher serves as a sorely needed boost to the Devils' defense, which didn't undergo any drastic changes through free agency or trades earlier in the offseason. They did add Mirco Mueller in a trade with the San Jose Sharks, but they lost Jon Merrill to Las Vegas in the Expansion Draft.

Butcher's college coach, Jim Montgomery, praised his offensive instincts and vision on the ice. When Montgomery and his staff helped Butcher further his offensive game in college, the defenseman was quick to adapt.
"Offensively maybe there's some things we should him in terms of structure that he hadn't done before, but he's such a smart hockey player with the puck,Authentic Braden Holtby jersey," Montgomery told NJ Advance Media earlier in August. "His instincts are high end and his ability to find people wide open or get pucks through from the point are what make him special."
With Butcher in the mix, the Devils added another left-shooting defenseman. New Jersey Devils land top college free agent Will Butcher on entry-level deal
The New Jersey Devils and recent college free agent defenseman Will Butcher have come to terms on a two-year entry-level contract, the team announced Sunday evening. Butcher will be signed with the Devils through the 2018-19 season, with an average annual value of $925,000.
Butcher, a former draft pick of the Avalanche, made waves in mid-August after spurning Colorado’s offer of an entry-level deal. Much like the Jimmy Vesey sweepstakes of last offseason, Butcher decided to test free agency instead of signing with the team that drafted him.
The 22-year-old defenseman is a recent graduate of the University of Denver, where he played on the Pioneers’ blue line for the past four seasons. This past year,Authentic Patrik Laine jersey, Butcher put up 37 points in 43 games and was named the Hobey Baker Award winner as college hockey’s best player en route to a Frozen Four victory with Denver.
